Introduction

This book is organized as a guide to complete Buddhist practice, beginning with the distinction between Dharma Mind and Worldly Mind, then moving into the foundations of practice through the Four Noble Truths, the Noble Eightfold Path, the Three Jewels, and the bodhisattva spirit. The central message is that Buddhist meditation must be understood as a whole-life discipline rather than a narrow sitting practice. Smith develops this view by showing how sīla, samādhi, and prajñā are mutually supportive dimensions of one integrated path: ethics restrains destructive impulses, meditation stabilizes awareness, and wisdom penetrates the delusion of self and ego. The later sections extend this framework into lay life, where ordinary experiences, emotions, relationships, habits, work, and inner conflicts become direct material for transformation. In this sense, the book presents meditation as an embodied, ethical, and existential practice aimed at awakening through daily life itself.
