Hinduism and Buddhism

The book is divided into two main parts: I. Hinduism and II. Buddhism. The Hinduism section includes chapters on the introduction, myth, theology and autology, the way of works, and the social order. These chapters discuss the symbolic structure of Hindu thought, including the relation between myth and metaphysics, the meaning of sacrifice, the concept of self, and the role of social and ritual order. The Buddhism section includes an introduction, the myth, and the doctrine. This part presents Buddhism as a path of awakening and liberation, with attention to the Buddha’s life, the doctrinal structure of Buddhist teaching, and its relation to broader Indian religious and philosophical concerns. The book concludes with an index.
