Inter-Regional Philosophical Dialogues: Democracy and Social Justice in Asia and the Arab World

This volume presents an interregional philosophical dialogue between Asia and the Arab world on democracy and social justice. It begins with discussions of philosophical traditions and critical reconstruction, including Buddhist karma as moral justice in Thai Buddhism, the historical character of Muslim law, and comparative perspectives on coexistence and care in Eastern and Western political thought. The second section examines social justice and human rights under globalization through comparative religious concepts of justice, global inequality, poverty, North Korea, Indian theories of punishment, religious harmony, human security, and human rights. The third section turns to comparative democratic models, analyzing Japanese democratic thought from modernization to the present, South Korean democratization, people power, and the Korean idea of reflexive consensus. The final section addresses identity, subjectivity, and exclusion through studies of women’s narratives in Korean literature, Avicenna’s concept of identity, and cultural hermeneutics as interpretation of the other. Taken together, the book positions philosophical dialogue as a practical instrument for mutual understanding, peace-building, democratic reflection, and ethical responses to global social challenges.
