Introduction

Pāli Primer is an introductory textbook for beginners who wish to study the Pāli language. The book presents Pāli grammar through a progressive and practical method, beginning with the alphabet, pronunciation, basic noun declensions, and present-tense verbs. It then gradually introduces grammatical forms such as the accusative, instrumental, ablative, dative, genitive, locative, vocative cases, gerund, infinitive, participles, verbal conjugations, feminine and neuter nouns, pronouns, and adjectives. Each lesson includes vocabulary, grammar explanation, sentence examples, and translation exercises from English into Pāli and from Pāli into English. The work is designed as a foundational stepping stone for students before they proceed to more advanced Pāli grammar and canonical Buddhist texts.
