This dictionary was prepared as a practical aid for students in the initial stages of Sanskrit study, particularly those using Sanskrit alongside English and Japanese. Its method reflects Sandhaan’s approach to Sanskrit instruction, emphasizing direct access to useful vocabulary, grammatical identification, and efficient memorization rather than exhaustive philological treatment. The dictionary also recognizes that Sanskrit vocabulary has remained active across Indian intellectual, religious, and linguistic traditions; consequently, certain words are supplied with both classical meanings and relevant modern usages. The work draws upon established lexicographical resources, including V. S. Apte’s The Student’s Sanskrit-English Dictionary and Monier Monier-Williams’s A Sanskrit-English Dictionary.
