Introduction

The book is structured according to the 26 traditional chapters of the Dhammapada: “The Twin Verses,” “Heedfulness,” “The Mind,” “Flowers,” “Fools,” “The Wise,” “The Worthy,” “Thousands,” “Evil,” “Punishment,” “Old Age,” “The Self,” “The World,” “The Buddha,” “Happiness,” “Affection,” “Anger,” “Stains,” “The Righteous,” “The Path,” “Miscellaneous,” “Hell,” “The Tusker,” “Craving,” “The Monk,” and “The Saint.” Each chapter presents Pāli verses, English translation, and selected commentary stories that illustrate the teaching in context. The contents move from foundational themes such as mind-made suffering and happiness, hatred conquered by love, heedfulness, restraint, and moral causality, toward deeper teachings on impermanence, non-self, the Eightfold Path, nibbāna, renunciation, monastic discipline, and the qualities of the saint. The edition also includes an index of verses and a glossary of Pāli terms, supporting study of both the text and its doctrinal vocabulary.
