Introduction
The main content of this book unfolds as a systematic presentation of Mahāyāna doctrine and practice through ten chapters centered on questions posed by Bodhisattvas such as Gambhīrārthasaṃdhinirmocana, Dharmodgata, Suviśuddhamati, Viśālamati, Guṇākara, Paramārthasamudgata, Maitreya, Avalokiteśvara, and Mañjuśrī. The opening chapters focus on the ultimate reality as profound, subtle, inexpressible, non-dual, and beyond conceptual dispute, showing that true realization cannot be grasped through ordinary categories of sameness, difference, compounded, or uncompounded. The middle chapters develop the philosophical architecture of Yogācāra by explaining consciousness, karmic imprints, the basis-consciousness, cognition-only, and the threefold character of phenomena: the imagined, the other-dependent, and the thoroughly established. The later chapters shift from ontology and epistemology to practice, presenting calm abiding, insight, the Bodhisattva stages, the six perfections, the removal of afflictive and cognitive obstacles, and the final qualities of Buddhahood. Taken as a whole, the sūtra functions as a doctrinal roadmap that links ultimate truth, consciousness, meditative cultivation, compassionate Bodhisattva activity, and awakening into one integrated Mahāyāna framework.
