The Buddhists: Encyclopaedia of Buddhism, Volume 2 (Co–In)

Volume 2 continues the editorial model established in the first volume: encyclopaedic articles are arranged alphabetically and frequently incorporate Pāli and Sanskrit terminology, canonical references, historical sources and secondary academic literature. The volume is notable for the breadth of its coverage. It moves from psychological and ethical subjects such as anger and generosity to complex doctrinal areas such as Buddhist cosmology, from institutional history such as the Buddhist councils to regional subjects such as Japanese Daibutsu traditions and the Tibetan Dalai Lamas. This breadth makes the volume particularly useful as a general reference work for Buddhist philosophy, religious history, ethics, cosmology, monastic institutions, Buddhist art and comparative Buddhist traditions.
