The Dhātu-Kathā Pakaraṇa and Its Commentary

The volume opens with the Dhātu-Kathā Pakaraṇaṃ, a technical Abhidhamma treatise that analyzes dhammas through patterns of inclusion, exclusion, association, and dissociation. Chapter I, Saṃgahāsaṃgaho, introduces the basic framework of what is included and not included. Chapters II–V examine relations between included and not-included categories: Saṃgahitena Asaṃgahitaṃ, Asaṃgahitena Saṃgahitaṃ, Saṃgahitena Saṃgahitaṃ, and Asaṃgahitena Asaṃgahitaṃ. Chapter VI, Sampayogo Vippayogo, turns to association and dissociation. Chapters VII–X analyze combinations of associated and dissociated dhammas: Sampayuttena Vippayuttaṃ, Vippayuttena Sampayuttaṃ, Sampayuttena Sampayuttaṃ, and Vippayuttena Vippayuttaṃ. Chapters XI–XIV combine the two analytical systems, treating inclusion, exclusion, association, and dissociation together: Saṃgahitena Sampayuttaṃ Vippayuttaṃ, Sampayuttena Saṃgahitaṃ Asaṃgahitaṃ, Asaṃgahitena Sampayuttaṃ Vippayuttaṃ, and Vippayuttena Saṃgahitaṃ Asaṃgahitaṃ. The final section is the Commentary, beginning on printed page 114, which explains and supports the interpretation of the root text.
