Jātakaṭṭhakathā (Paṭhamo bhāgo)

Ganthārambhakathā: Introductory homage and explanation of the purpose of the Jātaka commentary. Nidānakathā: Provides the narrative framework for the Jātaka collection through three nidānas. 1. Dūrenidānakathā: Explains the remote background of the Bodhisatta’s career, beginning with Sumedha and the aspiration before Dīpaṅkara Buddha. Sumedhakathā: Narrates Sumedha’s renunciation, ascetic life, encounter with Dīpaṅkara Buddha, and resolution to attain Buddhahood. 2. Avidūrenidānakathā: Covers the intermediate background leading toward the Buddha’s final life and enlightenment. 3. Santikenidānakathā: Explains the near background connected with the Buddha’s teaching career and the immediate setting of the Jātakas. 1.
