Paramatthadīpanī nāma Theragāthā-Aṭṭhakathā (Paṭhamo bhāgo)

Ganthārambhakathā: Introductory homage and statement of purpose; explains the importance of the elders’ verses and the need for systematic commentary. Nidānagāthāvaṇṇanā: Commentary on the introductory verses, especially the imagery of lion-like elders proclaiming fearless utterances of realization. 1. Ekakanipāta: Contains twelve vaggas of single-verse elder poems. It includes commentaries on elders such as Subhūti, Mahākoṭṭhika, Puṇṇa, Dabba, Pilindavaccha, Cūḷavaccha, Mahāvaccha, Nigrodha, Abhaya, Gavampati, Sīvali, Vappa, Meghiya, Cakkhupāla, Belaṭṭhānika, Yasa, and many others. 2. Dukanipāta: Contains five vaggas of two-verse poems. It includes commentaries on Uttara, Piṇḍolabhāradvāja, Rādha, Mahācunda, Jotidāsa, Mahākāḷa, Nanda, Bhaddaji, Sobhita, Upavāṇa, Isidinna, and Kumārakassapa. 3. Tikanipāta: Contains commentaries on three-verse poems, including Aṅgaṇikabhāradvāja, Paccaya, Bākula, Dhaniya, Khujjasobhita, Yasoja, Upāli, Uttarapāla, Abhibhūta, Gotama, Hārita, and Vimala.
