Introduction

The Kullavagga, Fourth Khandhaka — The Settlement of Disputes among the Fraternity: Presents legal procedures for resolving disputes, accusations, offences, formal acts, voting, confession, acquittal, and reconciliation within the Saṅgha. Fifth Khandhaka — On the Daily Life of the Bhikkhus: Regulates monastic conduct in ordinary life, including bathing, grooming, robes, bowls, tools, food-related rules, personal discipline, and public deportment. Sixth Khandhaka — On Dwellings and Furniture: Deals with monastic residences, furniture, building arrangements, storage, beds, seats, and communal property. Seventh Khandhaka — Dissensions in the Order: Examines disputes, schism, factional tension, and procedures for restoring harmony in the Buddhist community. Eighth Khandhaka — Regulations as to the Duties of the Bhikkhus towards one another: Defines duties between teachers and pupils, elders and juniors, residents and visitors, and members of the monastic community. Ninth Khandhaka — On Exclusion from the Pātimokkha Ceremony: Explains cases and procedures concerning exclusion from communal recitation and disciplinary participation. Tenth Khandhaka — On the Duties of Bhikkhunīs: Presents regulations concerning the nuns’ order, including discipline, conduct, relation to the monks’ order, and communal obligations. Eleventh Khandhaka — On the Council of Rājagaha: Records the first council tradition after the Buddha’s passing, emphasizing recitation and preservation of Dhamma and Vinaya. Twelfth Khandhaka — On the Council of Vesālī: Presents the second council tradition and the disciplinary controversy associated with the Vesālī monks.
